WHO WE ARE
Mission Statement
To be a Christian community that welcomes all, worships God and witnesses to God’s
grace; locally, nationally and globally.
We are a small but growing congregation that emphasizes the family nature of our connection with each other. We will warmly welcome you, and we invite all people to join us. You won’t need a tie or high heels to feel comfortable in our worship. You will hear about God’s grace and love. We invite your questions and doubts as well as your confidence in faith.
We have a long and distinguished history of leadership in the Elgin community. We support the local community through the use of our facilities by many groups including the Elgin Christian Soup Kitchen, Weight Watchers, and the Women’s Exercise Group, as well as offering our fellowship hall for use for annual meetings and fundraisers. We are members of the Elgin Ministerial Alliance and the Elgin Chamber of Commerce. Our members are active on many boards and committees in Elgin, including Main Street Board, Envision Elgin, the Elgin Library Board, Advocacy Outreach Board, and the City of Elgin.
First Presbyterian Church, Elgin is a member of the Presbyterian Church (USA), Synod of the Sun, and Mission Presbytery. We are active in the work of these bodies through mission giving and mission work, serving on various committees, and participation in the decision making processes of the Presbyterian Church.
